  • Proposed change to bylaws

    Bylaws of Channel Isalnds Integroup (OACII) of Overeaters Anonymous

    Amendments to Bylaws – These Bylaws may be amended at any time by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Voting Body present at any regular meeting or special meeting of the OACII, provided a copy of the proposed amendment(s) has been submitted to each group at least ten (10) days before the meeting at which the action is to be taken on the amendment.

    Intergroup Elections

    Can you offer service at the Intergoup level? Elections for Intergroup Service Board and Volunteer Positions will be held october 6th…plus, meeting reps are always needed, always welcome!

    From our CIIG Bylaws (amended Feb. 2006):

    Service Board – Election of these officers to the Board of OACII will be held at the regular OACII meeting in October. Terms for one year, with a maximum of one re-election to the same office (i.e. An officer may not serve more than two (2) years in a single office without interruption.)

    i. CHAIRPERSON: Chairs all OACII meetings, is unofficial member of all committees and all OACII-sponsored activities.

    ii. VICE-CHAIRPERSON: Fills in for absent chairperson, helps to oversee all OACII-sponsored activities and updates group registration in cooperation with Overeaters Anonymous World Service Office (WSO).

    iii. RECORDING SECRETARY: Takes minutes at OACII meetings and brings copies of minutes to the following meeting for distribution.

     iv. BUSINESS SECRETARY: Handles incoming and outgoing correspondence of the OACII Board.

    v. TREASURER: Handles the financial statements and pays expenses of the OACII.

     

     

     

    Volunteer Positions – Other positions to be volunteered by attendees at the time of regular election, but not considered part of the Service Board:

    a. INTERVOICE EDITIOR(S): publishes a monthly newsletter including, but not limited to, an up-to-date directory of meetings in the service area and announcements of upcoming Overeaters Anonymous activities.

    b. PARLIMENTARIAN: may be appointed by the Service Board of OACII and will serve in said capacity when so needed.

    c. The Chairperson may appoint special committee chairperson(s) as needed (e.g., Public Information, Retreat and Marathon committee, Bylaws Committee, Hospitals, Institutions and Professionals [HI&P], etc.).

     

     

    Integroup elections will be Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 at Chase Bank in Carpinteria. Service is its own reward…but you’ll get gratitude as well!

     

     

     

     

     

     

    WSO Conference Questionnaire

    The WSO Conference planning committee distributed an agenda questionnaire that CIIG is “entitled and urged” to return to let them know what we think WSO Conference delegates should spend time discussing. The questionnaire covers 22 issues, and is an agenda review, not a final vote on motions or amendments. The links below provide details about the questionnaire and the proposed motions.

    • Short summary of WSO Agenda Questionnaire (1 page) – overview of proposed motions, including new 12th Step Within Day, new definition of Abstinence, and new service requirements. Meeting reps can bring this short form to the next CIIG meeting to provide Yes/No vote preferences. To assist in determining which proposals may require referral to the Reference Subommittee, please write concerns or questions on the back of the sheet.

    The 48th Annual World Service Business Conference is May 4-9 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This year’s theme is “I Put My Hand in Yours.”

    Send a rep to the next InterGroup meeting (Tuesday, March 3rd in Carpinteria) so your meeting’s input can be counted.

    Next Intergroup Meeting: Jan. 6, 2009

    At the Nov. 4th meeting, Intergroup voted to cancel the December meeting (based on low attendance). The next meeting will be Tuesday, January 6, 2009 from 7:30PM – 8:30PM.

    All meetings are encouraged to send a rep to each Intergroup meeting. If you have time to join us—once a month for one hour—please consider offering service so your meeting will be represented. We want to know what you want Intergroup to do for you and your meetings. All are welcome.

    Intergroup meets at the Washington Mutual bank office at the corner of Carpinteria Avenue and Casitas Pass Road in Carpinteria. It is across the street from the middle school. Look for the clock tower and the ATM, and you’ll see the door. It’s on the side of the building, facing Casitas Pass.

    Intergroup Election

    The Channel Islands Intergroup is the service body that supports local area groups. The intergroup is made up of representatives from each group it serves and is managed by a board of officers. All members are welcome at every intergroup meeting and service opportunites remain.

    Election of service officers was conducted at the October 7 intergroup meeting.

    New Intergroup Location

    Effective October 7: Intergroup is moving to a new meeting place.

    Service Needed at Intergroup

    Intergroup, the business meeting for OA in our area, is in need of support. We need for all OA meetings to appoint representatives and send them to the Intergroup meeting; attendance is down lately.

    Several service positions are open. Service is one of our tools, and your help is needed here. Currently open are:
