The annual OA Birthday Party is a three day celebration of OA’s founding in Los Angeles in 1960. Every year hundreds (over 500 last year) of recovering compulsive overeaters from around the world gather to celebrate both the event and their recovery. Many of the fellowship’s longest standing members attend and speakers and workshop leaders often have 20, 30 and 40 years of recovery.

Events include

• Friday night inspirational main speaker, often followed by a play or musical written and performed by OA members.
• Saturday is an all-day affair with ‘round the clock Marathon meetings, workshops and panels. There is a Saturday luncheon, followed by another great speaker, as well as a Saturday Night dinner and speaker, followed by a dance, karaoke, or equally fun activity

Note: you do not have to purchase a lunch or a dinner to attend the speaker portion of these meals.

• Sunday continues with more meetings, panels and workshops, and concludes with a great closing speaker.

IDEA Day – Nov. 15th

International Day Experiencing Abstinence 

This day encourages OA members worldwide to begin or reaffirm their abstinence from compulsive overeating.

IDEA Day Suggestions

• Leave a New-Prospect Card on the mirror in the rest room of whatever restaurant you happen to visit, or put the cards into diet books in the library as bookmarks.
• Go back to Step Three to help you regain your abstinence.
• Spend time thinking about your connections with others in OA.
• Write about unity and diversity and how they affect your program.
• Make a personal commitment to extend the hand and heart to all who share your compulsion.
• Discuss abstinence with others whose views are different from yours.

Next Intergroup Meeting: Jan. 6, 2009

At the Nov. 4th meeting, Intergroup voted to cancel the December meeting (based on low attendance). The next meeting will be Tuesday, January 6, 2009 from 7:30PM – 8:30PM.

All meetings are encouraged to send a rep to each Intergroup meeting. If you have time to join us—once a month for one hour—please consider offering service so your meeting will be represented. We want to know what you want Intergroup to do for you and your meetings. All are welcome.

Intergroup meets at the Washington Mutual bank office at the corner of Carpinteria Avenue and Casitas Pass Road in Carpinteria. It is across the street from the middle school. Look for the clock tower and the ATM, and you’ll see the door. It’s on the side of the building, facing Casitas Pass.

Thanksgiving Event – Cheviot Hills Park

Los Angeles Intergroups invite you for fellowship and inspiration on Thanksgiving Day at Cheviot Hills Park from 10AM-12PM. There will be four speakers sharing their experience, strength, and hope and most importantly, their gratitude for OA.
